Travel Tip: Hawaiian Vacation for Golfers

Sunday 17 February 2008 @ 6:29 pm

Article: Hawaii is a great place for golf…
Golfers will find Hawaii is a perfict destination for golfing vacations.

1) It’s no wonder with its gorgeous palm trees, and white sandy beaches.  The vast array of water sports such as surfing, kayaking and snorkeling attract many vacationers yearly.  But Hawaii is also a fun place for golf.  The big island of Hawaii has over 20 golf courses.  The Four seasons Hualalai Course was designed by world famous golf pro Jack Nichlaus.  The Mauna Kea Golf Course has been said to be the best on the island.  While taking a break from a round of golf, guests at this hotel can relax at one of the most gorgeous beaches on the island.

2) The crescent shaped bay boasts white sandy beaches and is perfect for swimming and snorkeling.   There are also a couple of noteworthy golf courses located in Hilo.  Make sure to bring an umbrella.  We play rain or shine here, as Hilo is known as the rainiest city in the world.

3) Lanai is known as the rich man’s paradise of Hawaii.  So, it’s not surprising that there are some great golfing opportunities here.  Lanai is home to not one, but two, world class championship golf courses.    The experience at Koele, which designed by Greg Norman is set amongst the backside of Hawaiian mountains, making for a challenging and unique setting.  The challenge at Manele is located at another world renowned resort and was also designed by Jack Nicklas.  It’s amazing that he has time to play golf, with all that designing he’s been doing.  Another place to play golf in Lanai is located in Lanai city, the Cavendish Golf Course. It is a local favorite and is open to the public. This course has 9-holes and does not have greens fee (bonus).

4) Maui offers as many or more places to play golf as the big island of Hawaii.  The island offers beautiful vistas that make for the perfect backdrop for golfing.  Kapalua and Wailea are the most well known places to play.  There are also some championship golf courses located in the resort area of Ka’anapali.  This resort area was once a sugar plantation, converted into a resort area by its owners.

5) Lanai as well, is not lacking in golf courses.  There are nine great golf courses here.  Half were designed by either Jack Nickluas or Robert Trent Jones.  The Princeville courses have made a name for themselves as some of the most challenging golf courses in the world.  Princeville is a resort community located on the North Shore of the island.  While taking a break here, golfers can enjoy world class beaches, as well as fine dinning and exquisite shopping.

6) Let’s not forget about the island of Oahu.  Oahu is home to several 18-hole golf courses all located fairly close to Honolulu.  The Ala Wai Golf Course and the Ewa Villages Golf course are actually located in the Wakiki Beach Area.  Here golfers should take a break to catch a wave on famous Wakiki Beach.  Turtle Bay Beach Resort is located on the North Shore of Oahu.  It is home to 2 spectacular golf courses.  One of which, was designed by Arnold Palmer and the other by George Fazio.  The resort itself is located on a great beach complete with a reef for snorkeling.

Enjoy An Awesome Golf Experience

Extreme Golf Course Design
- By: Tyler Greyfield, 2008-01-28

I’m not much of a golfer, but I do enjoy 18 holes every now and then. However, when I golf at a new course, I usually rate that course not so much on the technical aspects of golf course design, but more on how entertaining I find the terrain. I appreciate grand vistas from the tee box, or impressive trees in the middle of the fairway. It doesn’t matter to me who designed the course, whether it’s Nicklaus, Palmer, Miller, or any of the host of golf course designers out there. What I care most about most, is that the designers make the course visually appealing. Give me something to look at while I wait for my brother to complete his 15 practice swings.

About two minutes from my house there is a country club. The parking lot is full of expensive cars, and you can order lobster from the menu. But when it comes to the golf course, it’s about as bland as a rice cake. Luckily, a 30 minute drive will take you to a different kind of course. At this golf course the only food you can purchase is of the fried variety. The parking lot is full of old jalopies, and on a hot summer day you might see a golfer with his shirt off. Even with the shirtless course patron, the loss of decorum is more than made up for by the entertaining design and terrain of the course. For me it’s not what’s on the menu back at the club house, but what’s out there on the course.

Recently, I was able to play at just such a course. This was at the Four Seasons golf course at the Peninsula Papagayo, in Costa Rica. I was there during the dry months and even though the scenery was not as green as I had imagined, the views from some of the tee’s were fantastic. Even with the brutish heat and the five dollar candy bar, this place was as fun as they come.

Right off you know you’re playing somewhere special, but it isn’t till the third hole that you really grasp the beauty of the place. From the third hole you get a great view of the pacific ocean with rocks jutting from the sea and the surf breaking in white splendor as far as the eye can see.

However, it was at the sixth hole, where I found a hole that embodied everything I love about golf . It has a tremendous view of the water and the coast, but what makes it so spectacular is the nearly 300 feet of sloping decent down to the flag of this par 4. I spent some time craning my neck and straining my eyes, looking down this U-shaped valley, trying to catch a glimpse of the flag far below. I could have hit balls all day off of the box, but instead I hit only two after my first ball sailed into the trees on the left.

A couple of holes later we found ourselves at another big downhill tee off. Only this time we had some company. A group of howler monkeys relaxed in the trees above us, making distracting noises. It was as if they were mocking warm up swing I took. In the end it didn’t matter, and I was able to put one down on the fairway.

The thing about Papgayo is, it’s not just exciting to play the course, it’s also a thrill ride on the golf carts. Some of the descents golfers have to negotiate in their carts are best described as precarious. Not only are they steep, but for some reason they have installed speed bumps. As if anyone would voluntarily try to break the land speed record, in a golf cart, on one of those hills. There must have been two or three descents where my passenger gripped the side bar with white knuckles. I even think I heard him mutter a prayer.

As I finished the course I reflected on how awesome the experience had been. All the elements that make up a good day of golf were there, Monkeys, large lizards, extreme golf cart driving, long drives off of hilltop tee’s and most of all stunning views of the pacific ocean and it’s rugged coast were present at Papagayo. And as I sipped my nine dollar Gatorade I thought about the golf course back home with the fried foods and shirtless players. I released that even though I’m far from a good golfer. There still is an element of the sport that I can enjoy.

Saturday 12 January 2008 @ 9:08 pm

Many senior golf resorts offer golfing every day along with a stay at the golfing resort. One place that has accommodations and golfing is down in Florida by Walt Disney World. The villas and resorts are beautifully decorated and the golf courses are within seven miles from where you stay. There are five golf courses in that area such as Highlands Reserve Golf Club, Champions Gate Golf Resort, Ridgewood Lakes Golf Club, Mystic Dunes and Celebration Golf Club. You could spend a week and play a different course every day. These golf courses have been home to some of the best-known senior golf tournaments.

Florida and the warm weather they have br9ngs senior golf enthusiasts to the area all year round and if golf is your game, you will find that these golf courses offer you something you do not see everywhere. Some of the pros vacation in the area to keep up with their game when not traveling the senior golf circuit.

Golf vacation packages

Myrtle Beach alone has some of the most prestigious packages with different adventures with each one. You can play the Big Cats and even have a lesson or two from a former Senior Golf Tour player Gary Cowan. Cowan was the winner of two majors and made eight appearances in other majors. You might want the Big Cat package, the Fanatic golfer package or the four rounds and three-night package. The later is for the true golfer in everyone. Four days of golf and only three-nights in the hotel is what you get with this package.

If you are looking for something out of the ordinary, you might try the senior golf package to Bermuda. With nine golf courses spread out on twenty-one areas of land, you will find this is one of the most extraordinary experiences of a lifetime. You can choose from fourteen hotels and resorts that offer the senior golf packages. With ocean all around, you will feel the warm breeze and smell the ocean as you enjoy a good game of golf. Many of packages include at least one day of golf, but you can find the deals with more days as well.

Senior golf equipment

Senior golf enthusiasts will want a Speed cart to make things easier on those walk only golf courses. Since you cannot have a golf cart, the motorized Speed Cart starts up and away it goes. You can set it to go by itself for up to sixty yards without you behind it to control the buttons. You can sue it as a manual cart or as a self-powered cart that will make your day even more enjoyable. Save your energy for the golf swing, let the Speed Cart do all the heavy work. You will never need a caddie again.

One little compact gadget for the senior golf player is the Zelocity Pure Contact Launch and Flight Monitor. How it works is amazing, how to use it is easy. This is something that can help you improve your swing for distance and tells you how you hit with the club you are using. This is nice for making over that bunker coming around. If you know how many yards you get with that one club, you can accurately choose the right club for that specific shot. This works great for conditioning yourself and teaches you how your swing is decreasing or improving as well.

Golf Villas In Cyprus

Saturday 12 January 2008 @ 8:55 pm

In case you require air condition ing/central heating, we suggest that the advice of a qualified electrical and mechanical engineer be sought. Fees for this consultant are around 4% for the design and 2% for supervision (on the cost of the works).Insist on all drawings being ready before inviting tenders.

The next step is to appoint an architect to carry out the design. There is an abundance of well qualified architects on the island and many capable technicians as well. We suggest that you appoint an architect for the purpose (not an engineer or technician). Architect fees range from 4%-6% (on the building cost) but you can agree also on a fixed fee. The prevailing fees are 3.8% on the building cost for a complete set of architectural plans and 1.6% for supervision (including the issuing of certificates).

The direct approach (find out who the owner is of the plot you are interested in and ask him if he wants to sell) may prove to be the best one. Bear in mind that it is the seller who pays for the commission of the agents and not the purchaser and for this reason agents have the owner’s interest at heart and not yours.

It is usual for developers to give credit terms of payment when selling these flats. Terms vary from developer to developer but commonly these are as follows: on signing the sale agreement - 1/3 of the total value; during construction - 1/3 of the total value; the balance over a period of 2 to 3 years. In most cases interest is charged at the rate of 9 per cent per annum as from the date the purchaser takes delivery of the apartment. (i.e. completion)

Solar heating is an economic alternative and its adoption is relatively inexpensive, having a payback period of approximately 5 years. If you will have a garden, it is advisable to drill a borehole for watering as the water charges rise more than proportionately with consumption. This will cost around C1,200 for the borehole and the pump, although it will depend on the depth of the borehole. The drilling of a borehole requires a Government permit first.
